PE & Sports Premium

At St John's, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curriculum opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

All children at St John's are involved in an enriched physical exercise program during curriculum time, which includes a variety of activities designed to challenge and inspire our children. Research has shown that participation in extra-curricular activities also has a positive effect on attainment and we are currently developing the opportunities for a variety of sports related after-school clubs for all children across school.

Children across Key Stage 2 will attend swimming lessons as part of their curriculum to ensure as many children as possible leave us as competent swimmers in Year 6. The data below outlines the proportion of children at the end of Year 6 (24/25) who are competent swimmers:

How many Year 6 pupils can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres? 37

How many Year 6 pupils can use a range of strokes effectively? 23%

How many Year 6 pupils can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations? 40%
