""Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul"

Plato

At St John’s our children develop a passion for music, in which they learn to appreciate music and develop a life-long love of music. We encourage the children to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding, to enable them to be become confident performers, composers and listeners.

Our children are introduced to a variety of genres of music from around the world and across generations, recognising the multicultural nature of our school and how we use music as a medium to explore and appreciate British and other cultures.

The children develop their musical skills through singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, composing music and responding to music that they listen to.

At St John's we believe that music plays an integral role in helping children to feel part of a community, therefore we provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music both in class and to an audience.

At St John's, we use Kapow Music scheme of work. Please see samples of the scheme below.

For more information, please contact our Music lead, Mrs Farrow via the school office.
