My first term at St John’s has been extremely busy as I have got to know the children, parents and staff. I have been made to feel very welcome and feel very much ‘at home’ here. Every day is very different and the family ethos and values at St John’s is evident in the day to day running of the school and its vision for the future. My role is everything I hoped it would be and there are lots of plans to empower both the children and parents in the near future so watch this space!
In my thirty years experience as a Pastoral and Safeguarding Officer and also as a Professional Counsellor I have supported children and families in an extensive variety of ways both long term and through those short spells that we all experience when life ‘throws you a spanner’. My aim is to provide first class holistic support to our children and their families so that our children get the very best opportunity to succeed at the start of their school career which impacts greatly on their life chances. I like to prevent ‘mole hills turning into mountains’ and will go the extra mile in making things possible and removing barriers to learning and success.

A free cereal club has been implemented at morning break time and is well attended. This aims to ‘recharge the children’s batteries’ ready for learning after break, avoiding a dip in concentration and learning. Children from year 4 have been supporting this project and have learned some valuable skills whilst doing so. It has given the children a relaxed social opportunity outside the classroom and the opportunity to make new friends. The Behaviour and Engagement Mentor and I have been working closely and are currently pooling our expertise to make the lunchtime experience for the children more productive.
I am always open to ideas/suggestions from parents and value their input into proposed events or ways of improving things. Please feel welcome to drop in to school or catch me on the yard.
P.S. look out for a questionnaire that is due out shortly that will be asking you what support you think your and family would benefit from.
Exciting times ahead!
